Dr. Tristan Cabello

Dr. Tristan Cabello has been appointed as the Assistant Director of the Master of Liberal Arts Program.

Tristan was the Director of the American Studies Program and a Senior Professorial Lecturer in the Critical Race, Gender and Culture Studies Collaborative at American University. He was an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Africana Studies at Bowdoin College. Tristan has won several awards, including the Esteem Award for Outstanding Newspaper Reporter/Columnist or Feature Article: Queer Bronzeville: African American LGBT’s on Chicago’s South Side, 1900-1985 in the Windy City Times and the Best Essay Prize for Stomping at the Savoy! Race, Culture and Homosexuality in Chicago’s South Side, 1950-1970, presented at the 8th Women and Gender History Conference, The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Tristan received his Ph.D. in History from Northwestern University and a Master of Arts in American Studies from the University of Strasbourg in France.
