Course Requirements

The Certificate in National Security Studies provides a framework within which students can tailor the program to their specific interests.

 

All students must take at least one course in each of the following core areas:

Foreign Policy

  • 406.661 Preserving American Security in a Dangerous World
  • 406.666 Contemporary Terrorism and the American Response

Administrative/Organizational

  • 470.635 Executive Politics and Policymaking
  • 470.659 Bioterrorism, Science, and Policy
  • 470.663 Administering Homeland Security

Science

  • 406.678 Science and Biodefense
  • 406.681 The Technology of Weapons of Mass Destruction

Students must also take three additional courses (for a total of 6) from the list of courses below.Every semester we scour the offerings of all Hopkins programs in order to find the latest cutting edge courses for our students and new courses are added to the list all the time.

For those interested in earning a Master's Degree, the MA in Government offers a Concentration in Homeland Security.
