Course Requirements

The Certificate in National Security Studies provides a framework within which students can tailor the program to their specific interests.

 

All students must take at least one course in each of the following core areas:

Foreign Policy

  • 406.661 Preserving American Security in a Dangerous World
  • 406.662 Threats to American's National Security: Theory and History
  • 406.666 Contemporary Terrorism and the American Response

Science

  • 406.681 The Technology of Weapons of Mass Destruction
  • 406.682 Science and Technology

Students must also take three additional courses (for a total of 5) from the list of courses below.Every semester we scour the offerings of all Hopkins programs in order to find the latest cutting edge courses for our students and new courses are added to the list all the time.

For those interested in earning a master's degree, the Government program offers an MA in Global Security Studies and a MA in Government with an optional concentration in Security Studies.
