“Johns Hopkins students and others can send their comments to our website and tell us their views on what we have written and what we will be writing during the transition through the Inauguration…and beyond.”
Welcome to our online magazine “America’s 44th President: On the Issues”.

Our magazine is a joint project of the Johns Hopkins University Washington Center for the Study of American Government and the Johns Hopkins SAIS Center on Politics & Foreign Relations based in Washington, D.C.

Ben Ginsberg, the Director of the Washington Center, and Kathy Hill, the Assistant Director, have been instrumental in all aspects of the online magazine from its beginning stages to the financing of the project.

Bob Guttman, the director of the Johns Hopkins SAIS Center on Politics & Foreign Relations, is the editor-in-chief of the online magazine.  Kimberly Bellows is the managing editor of the magazine who conducted much of the research and coordinated the project from its beginning to final stages.  Sofia Bassman, deputy director of the SAIS Center on Politics and Foreign Relations, helped pull it all together in the end.

The students in my “Road to the White House” class at Johns Hopkins Graduate School of Government in Washington, D.C. have been very helpful in conducting research for the online magazine.  Students from other classes I have taught at Johns Hopkins in Washington, D.C. were also very helpful in the early stages of planning the magazine.

Johns Hopkins students and others can send their comments to our website and tell us their views on what we have written and what we will be writing during the transition through the Inauguration…and beyond.  Our magazine is an ongoing interactive venture.

We present our new President-elect Barack Obama and his views on key foreign policy issues of the day.  We also look at the new President-elect and his views on health care and his evolving domestic agenda.  And I write an article detailing why Obama defeated McCain and how he won the election.

AMERICA’S 44TH PRESIDENT  looks at the key staffers with Obama; his family; his biography and  What’s In and What’s Out in the upcoming Obama-Biden administration. And, we present some advice to the new president from political and business leaders as well as the average citizen.

We present a timeline of the major political and economic events that happened during the long primary and caucus season.

In addition, we look at some of the new senators and governors who will be making news in 2009.

As mentioned, we will be updating our magazine throughout the rest of 2008 and into 2009 as Obama selects his new cabinet.  We will be writing about his new administration and we look forward to your comments on his selections and other topics of interest to you about the new Obama-Biden administration.

We look forward to hearing from you and we hope you enjoy reading our online magazine “AMERICA’S 44TH PRESIDENT”
