Course Requirements

CURRICULUM

Government

All MA/MBA students are required to complete the following required Government courses:

  1. Proseminar: Essentials of Public and Private Management
  2. Government and Politics in the U.S.

In addition to these two required government courses, MA/MBA program students are required to take 7 electives, two of which can be fulfilled outside the government program with permission from the government Associate Program Chair.

Though not required, the following government courses are recommended electives for students who wish to complete the MBA/MA program:

  1. Law of Public Institutions
  2. Congressional Policy Making
  3. The Budgetary Process
  4. Executive Politics and Policymaking
  5. Public Entrepreneurship
  6. Negotiating as Leadership Skill
  7. Government and the Global Economy
  8. State Politics and Policymaking

MBA

All MA/MBA students are also required to complete the following MBA courses:

  1. Financial Accounting (790.611)*
  2. Statistics for Business (790.616)*
  3. Business, Government, and the World Economy (790.614)*
  4. Financial Management (790.614)*
  5. Marketing Management (790.615)*
  6. Leadership Ethics Proseminar
  7. Managerial Communications
  8. Managerial Economics
  9. Corporate Finance
  10. Information Technology Integration for Business
  11. Management and Organizational Behavior
  12. Marketing Strategy
  13. Quantitative Decision Making for Business
  14. Integrated Capstone in Competitive Strategy (790.801)

*These courses can be waived if the student passes a waiver exam or has taken an equivalent graduate level class in the last three years with a B or better. Waiver exams are taken after students are admitted to the program, and within the first two semesters of initial registration
