Course Requirements
CURRICULUM
Students will take American National Security in the 21st Century in their first semester. This course introduces students to the topics and themes that the Global Security Studies degree covers and allows students to begin working on the first of three papers that can include in their thesis portfolio. Midway through the Program, students should take Pre-Thesis: Global Security. The other required classes are focused on the three pillars of the degree, strategic studies, economic security and energy and environmental security.
In addition to the required courses, students must take five elective courses from the list below. Students may choose to pursue an area of concentration in one of the fields listed below. This requires completing at least four electives from the approved list for that concentration.

Courses are open only to students who meet enrollment requirements. All classes are held at the Hopkins Washington Center at 1717 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. close to the Dupont Circle (South) exit.
