United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases Fellowship
Students accepted into the competitive fellowship program will study part-time to earn Johns Hopkins Master of Science in Biotechnology degrees with concentrations in Biodefense. Simultaneously, they will work for USAMRIID, located at Fort Detrick, Md. The U.S. Army provides fellows with an annual stipend and the tuition costs for the MS in Biotechnology. Johns Hopkins advisors will work with students to select an appropriate course structure that will capitalize on the resources being offered by USAMRIID, such as research staff and laboratory facilities. USAMRIID does basic and applied research on biological threats to develop vaccines, drugs and tests to protect soldiers, but much of the science it produces is also applied to civilian medicine. USAMRIID is the lead medical research laboratory for the U.S. Biological Defense Research Program, and plays a key role in national defense and in infectious disease research. The Institute conducts basic and applied research on biological threats resulting in medical solutions (such as vaccines, drugs and diagnostics) to protect the warfighter. While USAMRIID’s primary mission is focused on the military, its research often has applications that benefit society as a whole. USAMRIID is a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. For more information, visit www.usamriid.army.mil Fellowship Criteria
