Thomas McCloskey, Adjunct Faculty
Thomas McCloskey, Ph.D., is an instructor in the MA in Communication program at Johns Hopkins University and Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Maryland. In that position, he directs the Graduate Communication Fellows program and supports the Graduate Writing Center. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Thomas coached a nationally competitive speech and debate team and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer English Teacher in Ukraine.
Thomas holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Maryland with an emphasis in Rhetoric & Political Culture. His dissertation research focused on the development of nationalism in the former Soviet Union and how the ongoing Ukrainian conflict reflects tensions between the myths and memories of the Soviet Union and a larger push towards European integration and internationalism. Thomas also holds an MA in Communication from California State University Long Beach, and a B.A. in Politics from Willamette University. Thomas resides in Silver Spring with his wife Laura.
