Maria Siano, Adjunct Faculty

Maria Siano, PhD, has been an adjunct professor teaching communication, media studies, and professional writing courses since 1998. A former journalist, she worked for North Jersey Media Group between 1997 and 2003, and held several positions, including Editor of the community newspapers Suburban Life and Suburban Trends, and the lifestyle magazine 201. She earned several journalism awards, from the New Jersey Press Association (2002, Special Section: 9/11 Commemorative Issue) and the PICA Club (1999, Headline Writing, Column Writing, Feature Writing). She has volunteered to work on local environmental campaigns, with campus chapters of the American Democracy Project, and as a judge for state press association journalism contests throughout the U.S. Her research interests focus on popular culture topics. Publications include The People Are Represented: A Discourse Analysis of Contemporary Programs in the Television Crime Genre (Cambria/Teneo Press, 2008).

She earned her PhD in Communication/Media Studies from Rutgers University.

She teaches Research and Writing Methods and Communication in Practice.
