Joseph Harrington founded the Applied Economics Program in 1997, and guided it as Program Chair until Summer 2012. He was Professor of Economics at Johns Hopkins University for 28 years, and Chairman of the Economics Department for the last five of those. His fields of research interest include Industrial Organization, Political Economy, Evolutionary Economics, Game Theory, and Microeconomic Theory. He has served on the Editorial Boards of the RAND Journal of Economics, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Southern Economic Journal, and the International Journal of Industrial Organization. He was President of the Industrial Organization Society in 2012 -14. Professor Harrington joined the faculty of the Wharton School in Spring, 2013.
He received his PhD in Economics from Duke University in 1984.
