Jill McCorkle, Adjunct Faculty

Jill McCorkle, a novelist and writing professor and an award-winning author of eight books, will again lead the Fiction Workshop in Florence in 2011. Her five novels and three story collections include the most recent novel, Going Away Shoes. McCorkle has received the New England Book Award, The John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literature, and the North Carolina Award for Literature. Two of her stories have appeared in Best American Short Stories and one is in the latest edition of the Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. Her essays and reviews have appeared in The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, Real Simple, American Scholar, and elsewhere. McCorkle is a creative writing professor at North Carolina State University.

Previously, she taught at UNC-Chapel Hill, Tufts, Brandeis, and Harvard, where she was the Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in Creative Writing and chair of creative writing. She is a frequent instructor at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference.
