Jessica Anya Blau, Adjunct Faculty
Award-winning writer Jessica Anya Blau, author of three novels, will teach the Essence of Place course at Homewood in Summer 2014. The Wonder Bread Summer, her third novel, won various “beach read” contests from NPR, CNN and Oprah.com’s book club. Jessica is the author of the 2008 bestselling novel The Summer of the Naked Swim Parties, which was named a Top Summer Read by “The Today Show,” The New York Post, and New York Magazine. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University’s Writing Seminars Masters program, Jessica has published more than two dozen short stories. Her second novel, Drinking Closer to Home, came out in 2011. Her honors include a “Family Matters,” Glimmer Train Finalist in 2008, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference Scholarship in August of 2003, the Santa Barbara Independent Fiction Contest Winner in July 1998, and the Eclectica Featured Writer in August 1997. She has taught extensively at Johns Hopkins and was most recently visiting assistant professor at Goucher College. Jessica was born in Boston and raised in Southern California.
She earned a BA in French from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in Baltimore with her husband and two children.
